National Park Bike Trip 2006 (Top) » British Columbia Countryside

British Columbia Countryside

8/19/2006 - 8/21/2006: I have decided not to make the loop to the Glacier National Park after learning from the locals that it is just variations of the theme on Jasper/Banff, except that the traffic would be even worse where the route in places was without shoulders (as also indicated in the Adventure Cycling Maps). I am making great speed, but my doubt about the trip has grown even more in the last few days. I am not enjoying the trip as much as I would expect. While I am biking strong (though slow, given the weight I am carrying), I find little wonder. I don't feel special. Everywhere I go I see people and traffic. I thought about going offroad, but Grace would not agree to mail me the Mountain Biking maps, since she and Mom had read a prominent warning labelled on those maps advising sternly against going solo. I enjoy my biking moment to moment. But at the end of the day, I find little sense of accomplishment or excitement....
