Day 3
We welcomed a day of rest after the previous day's hard hike-in and in anticipation of the next day's 16 mile Colorado River romp. The temperature was just right for swimming. Some of us tried to swim against the waterfall, but all kept our distance.

Doesn't the water look inviting?
Let's play! (Thanks to Emily for the picture.)

Giant's Ladder, which leads to a mine in the cliffs.(Thanks to Thang for this picture).
This was recuperation day - a well deserved rest after a hard day's trek-in the previous day. The challenge of the day was going down the series of tunnels and (potentially slippery) granite steps that led down to Mooney Falls. A "DANGER, CAUTION, THIS IS GOING TO KILL YOU!" warning sign was posted clearly before the descent. We responded by posing, taking pictures with, and poking fun at the sign...but then we all got serious and carefuly crawled down. At the bottom of Mooney Falls - where it was cool, breezy, and misty - we sunbathed, swam and "cannon balled!" We later explored "Box Canyon" - a new and nearby canyon that was just starting to form. Some of us went on further to explore the "Giant's Ladder" while others headed back to camp to rest. It was a good, relaxing day...but we were all eagerly anticipcating the big Colorado River hike coming up the next day!
