Day 6
A lot of us had been over-eating the last couple of days to ensure that we would not be saddled with any extra weight on today's hike out. I believe most of us succeeded! It was a little sad to have to leave a place like this, but we all felt proud, accomplished, and a little bit relieved when we reached the top!

Hiking out - leaving Havasupai Village.
Our funky guides. (Thanks to Emily for the picture.)
Back on top of the canyon - what a trip!
This was the dreaded hike-out day - the day I least looked forward to. Not only did we have to leave, but we had to sweat and climb up a steep canyon to do so. We got an early start (we were out of camp by 7 AM), and after initially hiking as a group, we separated out to experience some solo hiking also. The climb up, especially the switch-backs, was tough but less difficult than most had imagined. We all felt very proud and accomplished at the top. We then drove to Travelodge (in Kingman) - stopping along the way by a quaint, quirky store called the "Hackberry General Store" - and showered and cleaned up for our entry back into civilization. We munched down a big dinner at Dambar Steak House and watched Robin, Emily and Whitney get crazy dancing in the car before we rounded out the night.
